Anthropic targets professionals with Claude Duet, a business-focused AI agent

The new application differentiates itself from consumer-grade assistants by prioritizing workflow automation and data analysis for small enterprises.

The artificial intelligence sector has reached a saturation point where new productivity tools launch with weekly frequency, forcing developers to find distinct niches to capture user attention. In this crowded landscape, Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a new application designed to compete with established players such as Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo.

The primary distinction of Claude Duet is its strategic focus on professionals and small businesses rather than general consumers. Anthropic explicitly positions the tool as a business companion, acknowledging that it is not optimized for personal errands like booking tickets or displaying real-time browser activity. Instead, the agent is engineered to handle complex workflow management, suggesting that its value lies in operational efficiency rather than casual convenience.

A core functionality of the platform is its ability to synthesize user data into actionable intelligence. The system can construct daily briefings and generate custom dashboards that highlight relevant trends and necessary next steps. By monitoring ongoing projects, Duet proactively delivers recommendations, allowing users to stay informed without manually checking every status update. This proactive approach is central to Anthropic's strategy of making the agent a persistent partner in professional work.

The technical infrastructure supports these advanced capabilities through significant connectivity and autonomy. Built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, the agent connects to more than 6,000 plugins and connectors available in the Claude Marketplace. Furthermore, it operates within its own virtual machine, enabling it to execute tasks in the background while the user continues with other activities. The system will only interrupt the user when a specific decision or approval is required, ensuring a seamless workflow.

Financial integration represents a bold step for the application, allowing it to make online purchases on behalf of the user. Anthropic has partnered with Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay to facilitate these transactions. However, the company has set clear boundaries on financial autonomy; while it can initiate payments, it will not trade securities or transfer money between accounts. Sensitive financial steps require explicit user approval, creating a balance between automation and control.

Data security remains a critical concern for business users, leading Anthropic to implement new protective measures. The company released a specialized classifier that scans every message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent is configured to decline requests involving credit card numbers or government identification documents, reducing the risk of accidental data exposure in a corporate environment.

As of now, Claude Duet is available in research preview for Pro and Max customers on iOS, Android, and the web via Claude.ai. Access is currently limited to those who join the waitlist, reflecting the staged rollout strategy. This launch signals a broader industry shift from simple chatbots to autonomous agents that work on behalf of users, with Anthropic aiming to capture the enterprise market through a tool designed for specific professional needs.
