The FBI reported a sharp rise in violent crime enforcement actions over the past 21 months.
The bureau stated it arrested more than 47,000 violent criminals and gang members during this period. This total represents a 67% increase over the final 21 months of the Biden administration. Arrests involving child sex predators and human traffickers also grew by 13%, reaching just over 6,000 cases.
Director Kash Patel attributed the increase to coordination with the Department of Justice and other law enforcement partners. He described the results as the largest reduction in violent crime in United States history. Patel also noted a 30% decline in the national murder rate and a 114% increase in arrests of violent crime suspects.
The agency highlighted the seizure of more than 4,600 kilograms of fentanyl. Officials calculated that this amount is sufficient to kill more than 350 million Americans. Law enforcement also apprehended 10 individuals from the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted list. This figure is 2.5 times higher than the number captured over the previous four years. Additionally, six fugitives were caught from a newly created Most Wanted Fraudsters list within its first four months.
Patel said the agency entered this term facing one of the highest threat environments in American history. He stated that the FBI and law enforcement responded by delivering in the biggest way they ever have. He added that the results reflect a president who backs the blue, an attorney general who relentlessly prosecutes criminals, and good cops getting the job done.
These figures were released on Wednesday. They follow a period where Republicans criticized the FBI for political bias and overreach during the previous administration. The agency's new data serves as a counterpoint to those earlier complaints regarding the handling of high-profile investigations.
The bureau's report details specific metrics on fugitive captures and drug seizures. These numbers illustrate the operational shift under current leadership. The data compares current performance directly against the preceding administration's final stretch.
