Knicks Star Joins SVU Cast

Jalen Brunson is stepping away from the court to take on a role in television. The New York Knicks point guard will appear as a guest star in the fifth episode of the 28th season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. NBC confirmed the casting this week.

The episode, titled Forsaken, is scheduled to air on NBC at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, Nov. 5. It will be available on Peacock the following day. In a promotional clip for the segment, Mariska Hargitay, who plays Olivia Benson, requests assistance from Brunson’s character, Detective Madison, to solve a case.

The collaboration stems from a mutual interest between the athletes and actors. Brunson signed with the Knicks in 2022 and is a dedicated viewer of the series. Hargitay is a frequent attendee at Madison Square Garden. Their friendship deepened after she learned of his fandom. Hargitay told Seth Meyers last year that she felt flattered and thrilled by the connection.

Brunson discussed his habit of watching the show as part of his pre-game routine on his podcast, The Roommates Show. He admitted to being starstruck during his first meeting with Hargitay. The two have maintained their bond through various public appearances and professional events.

Hargitay participated in the Knicks’ championship ticker-tape parade in June. Brunson attended her Broadway performance of Every Brilliant Thing over the summer. He also saw the premiere of her documentary My Mom Jayne, which won two Emmy Awards in 2026. The pair performed in a prerecorded sketch that opened the 2026 Emmy Awards ceremony in September.

Hargitay hosted the 2026 Emmys. During a TODAY interview prior to the show, she received a surprise video message from Brunson wishing her success. Brunson also hosted the Season 52 premiere of Saturday Night Live, which aired more than a month before his SVU appearance.

Brunson won the MVP award for the 2026 NBA Finals. His appearance on the show marks a crossover between the basketball and television worlds. The episode serves as a continuation of the on-screen relationship between the two stars.
