Seventy-seven degrees. That is the projected high temperature for Philadelphia on Friday, a reading that sits more than 10 degrees above the historical average for the end of October. The region is currently enduring a persistent stretch of dry weather that has defied the typical seasonal pattern for rain and cooler air.
Meteorologists report that a broad upper-level ridge has built across the central and eastern United States. This system keeps high pressure in control, blocking moisture from reaching the Northeast. The pattern shows no immediate signs of breaking, meaning the area will see little opportunity for rainfall through much of the upcoming week.
Temperatures will climb as the ridge strengthens and warmer air spreads northward. After highs in the mid-60s on Tuesday, the mercury will rise to the lower 70s on Thursday. By Friday, highs should reach the mid to upper 70s, marking one of the warmest days of the month. Humidity is expected to remain comfortable, making the warmth feel less oppressive.
The dry streak will likely continue through the weekend. Saturday, Halloween, will feature a mix of sunshine and clouds with temperatures generally in the lower to mid-70s. No rain is expected for trick-or-treaters, who will find conditions in the 60s during the early evening. Sunday looks cloudier but remains mild and mainly dry, with highs around 70 degrees.
The 7-day forecast details the gradual shift: Tuesday brings a high of 66 and a low of 52 under mostly sunny skies. Wednesday follows with a high of 67 and a low of 45. Thursday turns milder with a high of 72. Friday peaks at 77 with a low of 52. Saturday holds steady at 70, Sunday reaches 72, and Monday brings a chance of showers with a high of 72. A weak cold front caused a modest cooldown earlier in the week, but sunshine and warmer temperatures return late in the week. No storms or severe weather threats are on the horizon.
