More than $5.1 million was pledged by Valero employees in San Antonio for the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County this year. This figure surpassed the company’s internal goal of $3.9 million, marking a strong finish to the annual giving campaign. The contribution forms part of a long-term effort that has generated over $300 million in total donations since 1980. This makes United Way the longest-running community outreach initiative in Valero’s history.
The financial pledge is accompanied by direct labor from the workforce. Nearly 200 employees volunteered for the annual Day of Caring event. They worked at Family Service’s Neighborhood Place to improve the 64,000-square-foot facility. Tasks included cleaning, painting, gardening, and building picnic tables. The goal of the project is to transform the space into a welcoming environment where families can learn and connect.
Corporate partnerships further amplify the company’s charitable output. The Valero Benefit for Children program provides grants to hundreds of local charities. These grants support basic needs, healthcare, and education for children. Support from business partners helped raise $25.2 million during this year’s Valero Texas Open. This amount adds to the tournament’s all-time charitable total, which now exceeds $306 million. The funds are distributed to organizations serving the communities where Valero employees reside and work.
The company’s holiday traditions continue to focus on military and family support. November marks the 20th anniversary of Valero’s Thanksgiving with the Troops. During this event, employees host local military service members who cannot spend the holiday with their families. In December, the company launches the Adopt-A-Family program. Valero employees partner with the San Antonio Police Department’s Blue Santa, Family Service, and Any Baby Can to fulfill Christmas wish lists for hundreds of families.
These charitable efforts coincide with strong financial results for the refinery. Valero recently reported solid third-quarter performance across its refining, renewable diesel, and ethanol segments. Operators kept refineries running at near-record production levels. This output helped supply the market with transportation fuels. The company attributes its operational success to consistent execution by its business teams.
