Schiaparelli to open first U.S. boutique at South Coast Plaza

The Parisian fashion house Schiaparelli will open its first standalone store in the United States in December. The new boutique is located on Level 2 of the Nordstrom Wing at South Coast Plaza in Orange County.

Schiaparelli was founded in 1927 by Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli. She collaborated with artist Salvador Dalí to create garments that blended fashion with art. Schiaparelli died in 1973 and Dalí died in 1989. American designer Daniel Roseberry now serves as the creative director for the brand.

The store will sell ready-to-wear apparel, leather goods, jewelry, and accessories. The ready-to-wear collection includes knits, pants, tops, and dresses. The brand is also known for its avant-garde Face Bag, which features three-dimensional facial parts. These handbags start at a retail price of $6,500.

Celebrities have worn Schiaparelli gowns to major events such as the Oscars and the Met Gala. Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande are among those who have worn the label. Gaga wore a custom black and red dress to the 2021 inauguration of President Joe Biden, where she performed the national anthem.

In a related local retail development, Sun Day Red opened its flagship store in San Clemente on Monday, Nov. 2. The golf apparel and footwear brand was co-created by Tiger Woods and TaylorMade Golf. The two-year-old brand replaced the former Stance headquarters at 197 Avenida La Pata.

The store serves golfers and fans in the region. Brad Blankinship, president of Sun Day Red, said in a news release that the location is a way to thank the community that shaped the brand. He noted that Orange County is where the brand started and where it belongs.

Woods was born in Cypress and played full rounds of golf by age two. He turned professional in 1996 and won the Masters in 1997. The brand name Sun Day Red references Woods' habit of wearing red shirts on Sunday tournament days. The store operates from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
