American Airlines opened gates A10, A11, A13, and A15 in Terminal A at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on Oct. 21. This first phase of a pier-style expansion adds four of the ten new positions planned for the terminal.
The airline stated that the remaining six gates will become operational over the next several weeks. The 140,000-square-foot addition mirrors a similar project at Terminal C, which began accepting passengers in June after adding nine gates.
Jim Moses, senior vice president of DFW Hub Operations for American Airlines, described the opening as a milestone for customers and staff in North Texas. He noted that the project aims to strengthen the airline's network and improve the travel experience through its largest hub.
Officials indicate that Terminal A will become the carrier's busiest location, handling more than 200 departures on peak days. The new pier includes seating with power outlets at every position, electronic boarding systems, and additional dining and shopping areas.
Construction on the project began in 2024 using a modular method. Sections were built on the airport campus and then transported to the pier site for assembly. This same technique is currently being applied to Terminal F, a 31-gate facility that will serve as American Airlines' flagship terminal upon completion next year.
Terminal F will house The Provisions by Admirals Club, one of the airline's lounges. Kenneth Buchanan, executive vice president and chief revenue officer for DFW Airport, said the expansion supports the airport's ability to serve tens of millions of travelers annually.
Buchanan emphasized that the new infrastructure is designed to enhance the guest experience and provide local businesses with opportunities to create a distinct sense of place for arriving and departing passengers.
