The Philadelphia Eagles dropped their fifth consecutive game on Monday night, falling 38-21 to the Dallas Cowboys. The defeat extends the Eagles' losing streak to its longest run since 2016 and leaves the team with a 2-5 record. Dallas improved to 3-4 and remains in contention for the NFC East division title, though the New York Giants currently lead the league in that division with a 4-2-1 record.
Javonte Williams carried the offensive load for Dallas, rushing for a career-high 155 yards and one touchdown. His performance marked the first 150-yard rushing game for a Cowboys player since Ezekiel Elliott in 2018. The team finished with 204 total rushing yards. Dak Prescott completed 212 passing yards and three touchdown passes. Two of those scores went to CeeDee Lamb, while the third was a 21-yard strike to George Pickens.
Prescott sealed the game with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Lamb in the corner of the end zone during the third quarter. That score put Dallas up 28-21. Prescott then ran in the two-point conversion to increase the lead. Brandon Aubrey kicked three field goals of 55, 27, and 24 yards. The final kick extended the margin to 31-21. Williams added the final points with a two-yard rushing touchdown to close the scoring.
Philadelphia quarterback Tanner McKee started in place of Jalen Hurts, who is expected to miss the rest of the season due to blood clots in his lungs. McKee completed 23 of 35 passes for 211 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He orchestrated the Eagles' only scoring drive of the third quarter, which lasted nearly 10 minutes. That drive ended with a four-yard touchdown pass to rookie Makai Lemon, giving Philadelphia a 21-20 lead.
Saquon Barkley returned to the lineup after missing two games with a hamstring injury. He scored on an eight-yard run in the first quarter, cutting the Cowboys' lead to 7-3. Barkley finished with 62 yards on seven carries. He spent time on the sideline receiving treatment for his hamstring and back, indicating he was still managing the injury. Before this game, he had only 36 rushing yards on the season.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was inducted into the team's Hall of Fame during halftime. Lurie has owned the franchise since May 6, 1994. Under his tenure, the team has played in four Super Bowls and won two championships. Lurie gave a brief speech flanked by Hall of Famers Brian Dawkins and Donovan McNabb. He did not hold a pregame news conference, leaving coach Nick Sirianni as the primary spokesperson regarding Hurts' condition.
The Eagles' kick returner, Britain Covey, suffered a knee injury in the first quarter. The team will travel to Washington Sunday night to face the Commanders in a matchup of two struggling NFC East rivals. The Cowboys will host the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
