The Kansas City Chiefs added kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad on Wednesday, ending a period of uncertainty following his NFL suspension for sexual misconduct.
Tucker, 37, joins a roster that has struggled at the kicking position. Starting kicker Harrison Butker has missed five of his 16 field-goal attempts this season, creating a need for reliable competition.
Head coach Andy Reid addressed the signing during a media session, noting that Tucker has completed his disciplinary measures. “He’s done his suspension. Took care of his business there. I’ll leave it at that,” Reid said.
When pressed on the vetting process, Reid stated that the team spoke with multiple sources to ensure the situation was resolved. “We try to do our homework best way we possibly can, and talk to a lot of people, and make sure things are okay,” he said.
Tucker was suspended for the first 10 weeks of the 2025 NFL season after an investigation into allegations of nonconsensual behavior during massage sessions between 2012 and 2016. He went unsigned for that entire season and worked out with the Miami Dolphins earlier this year.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed confidence in the front office’s decisions. “I know [general manager Brett] Veach [and the front office] do a great job of bringing great players in. But for me, it was about the Denver Broncos and moving on and continuing to get better,” Mahomes said.
Tucker ranks second in NFL history for field-goal kicking percentage, though he converted a career-low 73.3% of his attempts during his final season with the Baltimore Ravens in 2024.
