The Kansas City Chiefs signed Justin Tucker to their practice squad on Tuesday, placing the former Baltimore Ravens kicker on the roster while starting kicker Harrison Butker works through a slump.

Head coach Andy Reid confirmed the move, stating that Butker has been off recently and the team needs to correct his form. The Chiefs held tryouts for three kickers during the week and selected Tucker over Harrison Mevis, the former Los Angeles Rams specialist.

Tucker, 36, enters the league as a seven-time Pro Bowler and an eight-time All-Pro selection. He holds NFL records for the fastest time to reach 300 career field goals and for scoring 1,000 points. His career conversion rate stands at 89.1%, with 417 successful field goals ranking 14th in league history.

The signing follows a challenging year for Tucker, who was released by the Ravens in May 2025 after serving a 10-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy. In January 2025, The Baltimore Banner reported that six women accused him of sexually inappropriate misconduct at spas in the Baltimore area. That number later increased to 16 women across eight locations. Tucker worked out with the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, and New York Jets this offseason but did not sign a contract with any of them.

Butker has struggled from long range this season, missing six total kicks. In Week 7, he missed a 58-yard attempt at the end of the first half and a 45-yarder in the fourth quarter during a 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Despite these misses, Butker is 9-of-10 from inside 50 yards. Reid called Butker one of the most consistent kickers in football, noting that he is off a bit and the team must fix it.

Tucker last played an NFL game on Jan. 19, 2025. He remains the Chiefs' primary kicker for now, but his presence on the practice squad signals that management is monitoring Butker's performance closely.
